As you very well may have guest, I am a big fan of The Eagles. I became aware of their wonderful music during the summer of 1974. I was part of a group of young people that would find each other during the summer holidays in the local swimming pool to have fun and a refreshing swim.
It was here that I heard there music for the first time over a small transistor radio that one of the guys brought along. The number that was played at the time was Tequila Sunrise. I just loved that style of music and over the years as more new songs were released I grew into a big fan of The Eagles. I have been listening and playing there music ever since, and it has never ever bored me.

The song "Hotel California" is well known for its guitar solos, which are performed by both Joe Walsh and Don Felder, with Glenn Frey playing rhythm guitar. The guitar solo has been ranked by many as one of the best guitar solos of all time.
The lyrics of the song describe the title establishment, a hotel where "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave." On the surface, the song is a tale of a weary traveler who becomes trapped in a nightmarish hotel that at first appeared tempting. There are many legends about the meaning of this metaphor.
The song is generally thought to be about the hedonism and self-destruction in the Hollywood music industry. The idea is that the song compares the culture of fame and excess to a luxury hotel. Though initially welcoming its guests with unlimited pleasure, it is merely a guise and ends up trapping its residents through their own self-destructive actions. Hence, the line, "we are all just prisoners here, of our own device."

Don Henley wrote the lyrics about how people from the Eastern United States ruined the West early on. They were responsible for the demise of the Native Americans, and the more West America goes, the more commercial it gets.
As you already know, I am a big fan of The Eagles. When I heard about The Eagles were doing a concert in Rotterdam during their "World Tour 1996", I just had to have a ticket! I had listened to their music for so many years and finely the moment was here. I wanted to see these legendary guys live on stage. I wanted to hear the music straight from the source!
When I arrived at Rotterdam the access roads were totally congested. Wide fields around the Feijenoord stadium were especially designated for parking space. It was totally hectic and chaotic! After having parked the car I found my way into the stadium. Inside there were lots of little shops were you could buy food or memorabilia like caps, t-shirts, buttons, music, songbooks and god knows what.
I had bought a ticket for a very good seat with an excellent view on the left side of the stage area. Left and right on the stage stood very large screens that would be used at a later stage to project live images upon. There was still plenty of time before the concert would start, so I got indoors to help myself to a plate of food. A delicious buffet was included in the price, you see.
After having finished my meal I went to my seat, high upon the first ring, overlooking the center field. When I looked down into the crowd that populated the field area I noticed that the public was an interesting mix of the very old and the very young. Think of people that looked like they might be retired on one hand, to people with young children that were running around and playing, all exited and waiting for the concert to start. I thought I had seen big crowds before, but this was a REALLY BIG CROWD...!!! The atmosphere was so good; people had come from all over the place to this concert to have fun and a real good time while listening to this group of great musicians...!
All the songs that I have been listening to over the past twenty years were now live on stage. What an adrenalin rush. The best part came after the sun had gone down. The big video screens and the lights were turned on. Cigarette lighters were fired up and the crowed was singing along with the band! Hotel California, Lying Eyes, The Last Resort, and so many more songs..! I nearly lost my voice singing along. What a great concert this was...! Unfortunately when you′re having a great time, time also flies, and before I knew it the clock hit eleven. Bummer...! End of the show and we were all homeward bound.
I have been playing my "Hell Freezes Over" CD continuously for weeks after.
