Summer holiday 2003
le Cap D′Agde − France

Thursday, 17th july

Croissants and fresh French bread for breakfast! In the past two weeks I have developed this terrible addiction on fresh French bread. Back home in the Netherlands, I will probably have to go "cold turkey".

After our breakfast we go for a walk at the port. We stroll around without any objective or goal, and on our way back we pass the harbour ferry service at "Port de la Clape". It is a docking place where every now and then a small blue boat mores that brings people from one place in this wide harbour to the other, much like a taxi but then by water. A water taxi so to speak.

I decide to take a tour around the harbour. No one except my oldest son wants to come along, so the two of us get on board and wait until we leave. When we circle around the small with apartments covered island of "ile Saint-Martin" it is only then that I realize the shear size of this harbour facility. In the far distance on the left, the apartments on the island "ile des Pecheurs" appear.

The boat takes us around through the harbour clockwise, and after making a stop at another rendevou place we gently move around the small island of "ile des Marinas". We then have a clear view on the amusement park. Having passed the amusement park, we now pass "Aqualand". This is basically a large collection of huge tube shaped waterslides.

Next we go around the back of the apartment island of "ile des Pecheurs". There is on thing that strikes me, and that is the enormous volume of sailing yachts. Their number is simply stunning, and some of them are actually quit large. Passing by the office of the harbour master, we finally return to the dock from where we started.

We walk back to the apartment and join the others for coffee with cakes. Today is a day of rest. We have no intention of doing anything, except for some swimming or sun bathing, or simply read some magazines. Tonight we turn in early because we are leaving for home tomorrow. Officially the apartment is ours until Saturday 12:00 hr.. If we would leave around that time, we would not make it home before midnight that night. Sunday morning quite early in the morning will be more likely. The problem is that the shops will be closed by then, and we do not have any groceries at home. So we leave Friday morning, and have Saturday for shopping and cleaning up. We therefore spend the afternoon on packing our things and partly loading the car.
