Hello,
my name is Johan P. M. Nobel.
I am Dutch and I live in the Randstad area, the suburban area situated near the Northsea coast. This roughly stretches from Amsterdam down to Rotterdam.
I was born in 1957 in the city of Leiden, where I went to school and grew up. In 1975 I successfully finished my MAVO4 education. Later on this proved to be not enough. Throughout the years that followed I attended various financial administrative courses in order to acquire new skills and enhance the once present. These efforts were followed by two examinations and two diplomas.
I have worked as a financial administrator for quite a number of years, and for various employers. Some were government institutions, others were of commercial nature. Some of them were orientated to the Netherlands, others were more internationaly orientated businesses. Below a summary of some of the tasks assigned to me:
Registration of accounts receivable and accounts payable
Preparation, coding and introducing invoices, memo's,
Petty cash
Financial reports (monthly, quarterly and annually)
Year-end-file preparation
Reconciliation of the balance accounts
Participate in balance consolidationsAt some point in my career I came into contact with computers. Initially I looked upon these machines as if they were clearly gifted with a life there one. I know better now. Throughout the years I was allowed to attend to a number of courses, again to acquire new skills (computer related) and enhance the once present.
And I did acquire lots of new skills. I learned to work with various kinds of software. At first only with administrative applications like LOTUS123, DbaseIII+ and WordPerfect. Later on I also learned to write software and compile this with CLIPPER 5.02. Based upon these experiences, at a later stage in my career I was asked to manage a complete computer network. At that point I still did not know anything about computer networks. Just about the standalone computers! Again I was send to various courses to acquire the necessary skills.
These were quite exiting times for me. I learned to set up Windows servers and networks, network clients (MS Windows 9x, Professional and XP) and also configure these. Trouble shooting and resolving networking and printing problems are no strange thing to me anymore! As are installing computer applications such as backup software, e-mail servers and clients, anti-virus suites, office suites, Citrix Winframe, accounting applications, .....Done it! I have done IT work semi-professional and for a while even as a proffesional "Networking Engineer".
Another skill that I have aquired over the years is webdevelopment and styling. This has resulted in my personal website which is in the first place my calling card on the web, and furthermore my stepping stone into the "World Wide Web".
I started like most people with just a handfull of HTML and a few free java scripts to spice things up. The last couple of years I have been more focused on CSS formatting. This is a beautifull way of getting the the job done! Just a bunch of "div" containers for the content, formatted with CSS! Away with the clutter of table's!
In addition to this site, I also developed two commercial websites for a former employer.
Maintenance on these websites, which are mentioned here below, is no longer carried out by me as of October 2007
